NASA Kids Science
My Role: Lead Web Developer
I served as the lead web developer for NASA Kids Science, which was the result of over a decade of advocating for a centralized location for NASA kids content.
My work primarily consisted of the following:
- Migrated content from several NASA kids websites
- Led SEO efforts
- Created analytics reports
- Established Information Architecture and URL structure
- Established DAM organization best practices
- Served as an administrator
- Onboarded developers and editors
For over a decade while working at NASA JPL, I advocated for a centralized location for all NASA kids content rather than the existing model of kids content scattered across several different NASA websites. The vision finally gained traction when an agency-wide web consolidation effort began, and I partnered with Blink UX to create an entirely new design system that brought together all NASA kids content.
Ultimately, budgets would not allow for the fully realized new design to be developed, but I adapted many aspects of the design to the limited design options afforded to me as part of the larger science.nasa.gov website. The result was not what my team and I hoped for, but we were proud of how we were able to adapt an ambitious design to a constrained design system.
